The News We’ve Been Waiting For!

I am beyond excited to announce that last week I received the ok last week to travel to Malawi. Lord willing, I will leave Tuesday March 21st. Yes, this week! I have been preparing for months now so it won’t take too long to finish the final preparations.

It’s been quite a mental transition to come out of waiting mode and into real preparation mode with a departure date in mind. Its really bittersweet. Departure comes with packing and goodbyes and lasts. Last things include - last time to visit, last time to hold this baby knowing she will grow a lot, Lord willing, last time to eat cheese, last time to eat something my mom cooked, last time…etc etc. But lasts also come with the chance to look forward. Look forward to moving into my new house. Look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new. Look forward to walking through familiar territory, in a sense, my second home. Look forward to continuing to practice my new language. Look forward to loving on both familiar and new children, and I could continue.

Goodbyes pave the way to new hellos! 🙂

Some of you may have heard that Malawi has recently been hit with another cyclone. Cyclone Freddy has destroyed a lot of infrastructure and death counts are still rising. It’s indescribable in words. Stephanos Foundation, though they are located near Blantyre, has received a lot of rain, but otherwise the compound is doing well. I do not know how this will impact my arrival and first few days there, but I hope to keep you posted.

Also, I want to take a moment to thank all of those who came to my good-bye open house! Your support is truly appreciated! It’s true - I may be the one going to Malawi, but I could not do it alone. It really takes a village and above all the help of the Lord.
